Frosted tips, bell bottoms, religion, gluten . . . Everything goes out of style, for now. Maybe in the future everything is always in style. Every guy will be cool. But if every guy is a cool guy is a cool guy cool?

Let’s focus on the present.

In the little Here and Now that We live in, things still trend, and we can cherish that which is Cool. Like all other mumbo jumbo, wine trends too. Different styles, producers, regions, grape varieties, soil types, label art, oaking practices, etc. etc. Many different taste makers manipulate the trends, with a current punk rock uprising against the HUGE wines of the 1970s and 80s, the style popularized by Wine Spectator founder Robert Parker, using his infamous 100 Point rating scale. Always we’re hunting for something new and pretty and unfamiliar, after our last favorite thing gets swallowed up into the money machine. What we want is humble wine made by humble people. Most people would rather drink wine made by a delightfully modest German farmer than a Ferrari-driving-Bordeaux-slinging maniac. In this tasting, we will celebrate and learn about three winemaking regions that are up-and-coming with their offerings of humble, traditional, and delicious wines.
