Every Wednesday from 1-3pm we taste through a trio of wines at the bar.

In honor of Oregon Pinot Camp happening this week, we will be tating through some "Weird Wines from Oregon."

Over the past several decades, Oregon’s Willamette Valley has become world famous for its wines. The flagship grape is Pinot Noir, and most of us have tried this fruity, earthy, and spicy version. They also make renowned wines with Pinot Gris and Chardonnay that are fruit forward, refreshing, and easy drinking, too. Last weekend was a big one for Oregon wine, they had Pinot Camp, in which 50 Oregon winemakers gather to display the region and its wines to industry folk so that they may spread the gospel about Oregon’s delicious offerings. Basically, it’s a long weekend of partying and feasting in the beautiful Pacific Northwest summertime. Unfortunately, we’re not there, so we’ll get as close as possible by enjoying some great Oregon summertime wines.

Typically, these tastings are very classic and education-focused, but we’re gonna veer away from the norm and taste three oddballs for fun. The cool thing about Oregon, and the United States in general, is that there are very few regulations on winemakers. This might change with time, but right now it means we can experiment with wacky random varieties and funky methods without getting chewed out by the government. Here’s three weird ones by three amazing winemakers. Enjoy!
